Heidi's story: I was 34 when I was first diagnosed with breast cancer. Dr. Sledge and his cutting-edge treatments are the reason I was still around to get it a second time. Thanks to him, I am a survivor-twice. He gave me the opportunity to live my life, share it with my husband and to have and raise our son. I wanted to do something to give back to him. 100 Voices of Hope is the perfect answer.
Through both bouts that included extensive surgery and chemotherapy, I realized how amazing the people in my life are: my husband Bob, our son Alec, and my close friend and co-worker of 30 years, Betty.
Betty is a cancer survivor too and an extraordinary human being. Her support of me and others with cancer is the inspiration behind "B-Cause." Many "Bs" in my life have made this venture possible: Betty and Bob as well as our close friend of 40 years, Bruce.
To say thank you, I have created B-Cause hearts, each one individually designed and handmade. They are meant to remind cancer patients, and those who support them, that research keeps us alive and love makes life worth living.
I am donating 25% from the sale of each B-Cause heart to 100 Voices of Hope, a breast cancer research program at IU Simon Cancer Center that combines the powers of friendship and research.
